I am always on the lookout for sustainable skin care. I love REN products but they are so pricey even with discounts. I hope that some of these are easy to obtain ( no problem with Boots obviously? There is a lovely range made in the Lake District called Pure Lakes who offer refills when you return their bottles. Reasonable prices and great scents ( for those not allergic to perfume). Grapefruit and Lemon grass is a favourite. The body washes are also great when shaving legs.

They all use unnecessary chemical fillers while Garden of Wisdom keeps their ingredient lists clean. They use beneficial chemicals and natural ingredients with only mild additives
(like a thickener /emollient/ emulsifier/ surfactant that is needed for the formula) and preservatives. They also tell you, on their website, EXACTLY what each of their ingredients does so there is no confusion.

For instance this is their Niacinamide and B5 serum’s ingredients:
Spring Water
Avocado Extract
Pantothenic Acid (B-5
Sunflower Seed Extract
Niacinamide (B-3) 3%
Aspen Bark Extract
Xanthan Gum (natural thickener)
Cosmocil CQ (Polyaminopropyl Biguanide. Preservative, very gentle. Non-paraben, does not release formaldehyde)
Essence of Mandarin Orange

Compared to INKEY:
Water (Aqua), Niacinamide,Glycerin, Propanediol, Butylene Glycol, Squalane, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Hyaluronic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Phospholipids, Xanthan Gum, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Extract, Allantoin, Disodium Edta, Polysorbate 60, Panthenol, Glycolipids, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterol, Disodium Phosphate, Citric Acid, Sodium Phosphate.

Boots:
Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Niacinamide, PEG-12 dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, PPG-26 Buteth-26, Ammonium, Acryloyldimethylaturate/VP copolymer, PEG-40, hydronated castor oil, Dipotassium, glycyrrhizate, Chlorphenesin, Xanthan gum, Aloe barbadensis leaf juice, Disodium EDTA, Maltodextrin, Potassium sorbate, Sodium benzoate

And for fun we’ll include TO:
Water, Niacinamide, Pentylene Glycol, Zinc PCA, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Xanthan Gum, Isoceteth-20, Ethoxydiglycol, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

Yikes.

I have sensitive, reactive, and acne prone skin. I’ve tried products from brands like Boots and TO and they either gave me a rash broke me out. If they didn’t I didn’t see any benefit. I’ve been using GoW skincare for years without issue AND my skin has changed for the better. I’ve come across one product I was sensitive to but that’s because I’m allergic to tocopheryl and I stupidly didn’t read the ingredient list thoroughly. If anyone is interested I strongly suggest looking at their actual website. There are a TON of options and it can take time to figure out what really works for you but their samples are cheap and generally last at least 2-3 months. Also their customer service is outstanding. No I’m not affiliated. I just really love them!

It stung (a lot!) and I found that it pilled a lot on my face. It also took me a while to figure out why my hands smelt weird… I was resting my face in them and the Vit. C was rubbing off on to them. Have reverted back to my (more expensive) favorite now.

Really useful to find out about other, low priced brands. I use The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid but I mix it with their Vitamin C cream which makes it lighter & takes away the stickiness. I’ve never really bothered with skincare before but this year I decided to make a change & look after my skin a bit more. I’m 50 next year & I’ve never had such a good complexion!

Oh this is so good to know, haven’t tried their vitamin C! It has been nice to spend a little more time on our skin, hasn’t it? Mine is having a wonderul moment right now, but probably due to being pregnant!! xx

I have to say the difference in my skin has been surprisingly good. I suffer from Rosacea a recent thing, possibly due to being peri menopausal. I now don’t feel the need to camouflage my skin quite so much which has felt so liberating. I do also wonder if being furloughed has helped too 🙈
